Lettings agent fees for tenants to be banned

The government announced yesterday that agents fees to tenants will be banned. No date has been set as of yet but we expect that this will be implemented sooner rather than later. Unfortunately in most cases it will be the landlord who is expected to soak up these fees. As a result we anticipate rents will be increased which tenants and local authorities will be expected to pay.

Property Rentals view is that the government is right to stop agents charging tenants exorbitant fees but should have perhaps set up parameters and guidelines instead of a blanket ban. Tenants could then be charged sensible fees and landlords would not again be penalised by the governments actions and feel the need to increase rents etc.
